RAVE OS
The Most Reliable, Configurable IFE in the Skies
My biggest and most rewarding contribution thus far at SPI, RAVE OS, our proud new generation to the embedded seatback line, was launched in January 2021 after two years of design and development. While its predecessor, RAVE REMIX, was widely-known for its reliability, SPI wanted to break into the top tier of airlines and offer all customers a more flexible and responsive user interface.
As the project’s Creative Director and Product Manager, I was tasked with the overall definition and strategy of this next generation in our RAVE product line, working closely with Executive Staff, key airline partners, Product Managers, designers and engineers to identify the “right balance” of customization and standard product.
Together with my design team, we built the interface from the ground up, creating a new feature catalog for multi-tasking initiatives, third-party application integration, real-time event notifications, and livestream feeds. We also endeavored to build-up traditional features, creating new-and-improved ways of watching movies, consuming TV shows, and listening to albums and audiobooks during long-haul flights.
Our iterative and collaborative development debuted on Virgin Atlantic’s long-awaited A350 and the inaugural A320 launch of Taiwan’s new luxury airline, STARLUX.
